Ansett Aviation Training (Ansett) is developing a new three-bay aviation training centre adjacent to Brisbane Airport in Australia which will include the operation of a new ATR-600 full flight simulator.
The company will also re-locate two existing Ansett-operated simulators, a Dash-8 and a Fokker F-100, from its Melbourne facility to Brisbane to provide operators with better access to the types.
The new training centre is due to open in June 2018 and the ATR simulator, manufactured by TRU Simulation + Training, should begin operations shortly thereafter.
The project is being supported by the Government of the State of Queensland and it’s ‘Industry Attraction Fund’. The facility has the potential to be enlarged to accommodate further simulators in the future.
News of Ansett’s Brisbane centre follows the introduction of training centres in Taiwan (2016) and Milan (2017). Each centre will achieve both certification from the local aviation regulator as well as EASA to ensure consistency in the delivery of training services.
Ansett will also install an ATR-600 simulator in Taiwan in May 2018 under a long-term partnership with both Mandarin airlines and ATR. The partnership allows Ansett to ensure its ATR simulators maintain adherence to aircraft developments as well as enabling a larger pool of resources for customers in terms of servicing and the provision of customised training services.
Ansett’s Chief Executive Officer, David Garside, stated, “Ansett has been rapidly expanding overseas recently but we have also continued to significantly invest to support training in the Australian market during this time. Our customers have long asked for us to operate additional simulators in other Australian cities outside of Melbourne and we are delighted to announce our new Brisbane Centre, which will achieve this aim.”
